Bizen artist Harada Shūroku creates work of a bold and stirring nature. After researching old Bizen kiln sites with his teacher, Harada became a master of the Bizen technique, focusing on sake flasks. Typically left unglazed, Harada’s ceramics reveal the vivid color, texture, and essence of the original clay.
1941 Born in Inbe, Bizen
1963 Graduated from Meiji University, majoring in agriculture
1971 Built own small pit kiln in Inbe
1972 Built own anagama pit kiln in Inbe
1992 Built a semi-underground single-chamber kiln (anagama) in Ushimado and
conducted the first firingAwards:
1985 Commissioned the Naomi Uemura commemorative plaque for Ikuta Hall, Meiji
University
