May 9, 2023Coming to Life: Vernal Expressions in Clay is listed in the Japanese-language publication 陶芸家・二人展 明石竜太郎と服部真紀子 陶芸家・明石竜太郎(あかし・りょうたろう)と服部真紀子(はっとり・まきこ)の二人展「Coming to Life: Vernal Expressions in Clay」が、5月3日(水)から6月16日(金)まで、アッパーイーストサイドの画廊ジョーンBマービスで開催されている。 陶芸作家として、全く異なるアプローチを持つ二人が、自然からインスピレーションを受け、生物の命の美しさを表現している。開廊時間は平日午前11時から午後5時まで、入場無料。 明石にとっては、これが日本国外で初の展覧会。粘土を彫り、削り、薄く釉薬やプラチナの下地を塗ることにより、入り組んだ表面のパターンを作る手法だ。 服部の作品は、粘土を薄く削り、ピンセットにより一枚一枚外から内側までびっしりと粘土のヒダを敷き詰める、単純だが時間のかかるプロセスにより繊細な作品を作る。...Read more -
