Our latest exhibitions at Joan B Mirviss LTD are featured in Orientations magazine's Sept/Oct 2021 issue. Classical Dignity, Contemporary Beauty marks the New York debut and first solo exhibition outside of Japan for both Hori Ichirō and Itō Hidehito.
"Coinciding with Asia Week New York, 'Classical Dignity, Contemporary Beauty' presented by Joan B Mirviss LTD will mark the New York debut of Japanese ceramicists Itō Hidehito (b. 1971) and Hori Ichirō (b. 1952). Inspired by his dedicated study of Song dynasty ceramics, Itō pushes the possibility of sculptural forms with a new body of work featuring a variety of celadon types using difficult craquelure technique. Also hailing from the historic Mino region, Hori continues his innovative use of traditional glazes and sophisticated firing techniques with a new collection of robust masterworks.
